Choosing the right tool

A generator is only as good as its source of randomness. The password, UUID and hash tools here use the secure random generator and cryptography built into your browser, not a predictable formula, so the results are suitable for real use. They run on your device, which means a password you generate is never seen by a server.

Choose a password or passphrase generator when you need a strong secret and a password manager to hold it. Use a UUID when you need an identifier that will not collide with another, even across systems that never talk to each other. Use a hash when you need a fixed-length fingerprint of some text or a file, for example to check that a download was not changed. Lorem ipsum gives designers placeholder text so a layout can be judged before the real copy exists.

Nothing you generate is stored or sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Are the passwords really random and safe to use?
They are made with the secure random generator in your browser and are not sent to a server. Use a long password or passphrase and keep it in a password manager.
What is a UUID used for?
A UUID is a 128-bit identifier written as 36 characters that is practically guaranteed to be unique, so systems can create IDs independently without clashing.
Can a hash be reversed to get the original text?
No. A hash is a one-way fingerprint. You can check that some text matches a hash, but you cannot recover the text from it.
