QuikTool

How it works: your data stays in your browser

QuikTool is a set of free online tools that do their work on your device. This page explains in plain language what that means, and what does and does not leave your browser.

What “runs in your browser” means

When you open a tool, your browser downloads the page once: its text, its styling and the program code that makes the tool work. From then on, the tool is a small program running on your own computer or phone. When you format JSON, work out a loan payment or generate a password, your browser does the calculation and shows you the answer. Your input does not travel to a server and come back.

The site is built from plain files. There is no program on the other end waiting to receive what you type, no database that could store it, and no account to sign in to. Larger jobs, such as converting a big file, run in a background worker inside your browser, so they stay on your device too.

What does leave your device

  • The page itself. Like any website, your browser asks for the page and its files when you visit.
  • Anonymous visit counts. We count page views and which tools are used, to learn what is useful. These counts never include what you typed.
  • The contact form. If you write to us, the name, email and message you submit are sent so we can reply. It is the only form on the site.
  • Files your own HTML links to. If you paste HTML that points to an image or script on another website into the HTML viewer, your browser loads it from that website, as it would for any web page.

What stays on your device

To be convenient, the site keeps a few settings in your browser: your light or dark theme and, if you leave it on, your last input in each tool. This lives in your browser’s local storage and is never sent to us. You can switch it off on any tool page.

Why we build it this way

Data we never receive is data we cannot lose, leak or misuse. Doing the work locally also makes the tools fast, because nothing waits on a network round trip, and it means we can keep them free. For the legal detail, read the Privacy Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Can the site owner see what I type into a tool?
No. What you type or paste is processed by your own browser and is never sent to the site. There is no server that receives it, and no account or database to keep it in.
How can I check that nothing is uploaded?
Open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, then use a tool. You will see no request carrying your input. The only requests are the ones that load the page itself.
Does it work offline?
Once a tool page has loaded, it keeps working if your connection drops, because the code is already on your device. Reloading the page or opening a new one needs a connection.
Is it safe to use with passwords, tokens or API keys?
The tools do not send them anywhere. As a general habit, though, avoid pasting live production secrets into any website you cannot inspect. For real secrets, a tool you run on your own machine is safest.
Why do some tools remember my last input?
It is a convenience, controlled by the “Remember my last input” switch on every tool page. The text is kept in your browser’s local storage on your device only. Turn the switch off, or clear your browser data, to remove it. Tools that handle sensitive input, such as the hash generator, JWT decoder and password generator, never remember it.
